Saxin' up your party
Saxin’ up your party is Mr. Saxo-B’s party concept. You can book Boris for your event, where he’ll play along to the beats of your DJ. The only thing Boris needs is a power socket for his wireless microphone. As a back-up, Boris always brings a selection of danceable sax-friendly music, but usually he effortlessly plays along to your DJ’s tunes.
You can book Saxin’ up your party for a timeframe of:
- 30 minutes, for example as the opener or closer of your party. Boris will play one set of 30 minutes.
- 1 hour as a special act. Boris will play three sets of approximately 15 minutes or two of 20 minutes.
- 4 hours: Boris will be your saxophonist for the evening and will make sure that your party will be saxed up to the max at exactly the right moments.

Background Saxin'
Background saxin’ is Mr. Saxo-B’s lounge concept. You can book Boris for different kinds of occasions where pleasant background music complements the event. Think of receptions, a shop opening or in a restaurant, bar, cafe, etc. This saxophonist will play along to the beat of your DJ. The only thing Boris needs is a power socket for his wireless microphone.
As a back up, Boris always brings a fine selection of suitable lounge music, but usually he effortlessly plays along to your DJ’s tunes.
You can book a set of Background saxin’ for up to 12 hours. Boris will play one set of approximately 20 minutes per hour. Book this concept for a period up until 8.00 PM and you’ll receive the off-peak hour rate!

Bio
It all started on June 14, 1985 in Amstelveen when Boris was born. He started playing clarinet at the age of nine. Because he was very eager, Boris quickly made progression. After only one year of practice, he got the opportunity to play the intro tune of the 1000th episode of the longest-running Dutch soap opera ‘Goede Tijden, Slechte Tijden’ on TV.
In 1997 he joined his first contest with a clarinet quartet and won 1st prize. This wasn’t the only timethat Boris showed his talent. The next two years his quartet earned the 2nd price at the ‘Zonnewende Concours’ and the 1st price at the ‘EGTA Concours‘. The same year, in 1999, the foursome was seen on TV in the show ‘Solo for a child’. But soon his interest in classical music started to fade.
Then, at the age of 18, he heard ‘Papa’s Got A Brand New Sax’ by Dutch saxophonist Hans Dulfer. That’s when he knew: he wanted to play the sax! So he took lessons right away. “I really new when I heard this instrument. And that’s an extraordinary feeling! I started to buy all kinds of jazz and sax cd’s, it just makes me extremely happy when I hear a good Sax solo”, he explains thinking back.
Two years later Boris was accepted to the music academy in Rotterdam (CODARTS). At the academy Boris had the privilege to be tutored by some of Holland’s best sax players, for example Dick de Graaf, Ben van den Dungen and Simon Rigter. He even played clarinet under the guidance of Nancy Braithwaite. But the saxophone is one of the biggest parts of his life now. “The sax feels like my voice and I’m singing. The difference being that everyone can understand it, like a universal language. You can play soft and tender or scream with it, and everyone immediately feels what you mean, it’s an amazing thing.” Since 2005, Boris has performed on a regular basis and mastered nearly every music style.

What you should know
Boris can only create the right atmosphere when the circumstances are right. Contributing factors are:
- The DJ: “A good DJ defines the atmosphere for 30%, a bad one for 80%.”
- Sound limit; some locations have a limit of 85 dB or less. This is not enough to create a blast. Besides that the saxophone produces a minimal of 90 dB.
- Sax volume; the saxophone produces about 90 dB when played So the sax will always be noticed at a reception or in a store.
- Think about the size of the room; to figure out how big a room has to be to create the right vibe, count 1 square meter per guest. A room that is too big will never be cosy and fun…
- Consider where to place Mr. Saxo-B’s stage. People tend to hang out nearby a bar. When you place Mr. Saxo-B too far from the bar, people are less eager to head to the music and dance.
- Think about air-conditioning. When a room gets too hot, people are likely to go outside to cool off, which has an impact on the atmosphere at your event.
